During a heatwave, some residents may take it upon themselves to open hydrants in an effort to beat the heat. While we agree that Cleveland Water is cool and refreshing, opening hydrants can be dangerous, costly, and wasteful.
Cleveland Water maintains and supplies water to approximately 75,000 fire hydrants in our service area. To ensure they’re all functioning properly, we rely on the annual hydrant flushing efforts of local fire departments.
Aside from providing quality drinking water when and where you need it, another important purpose of the Cleveland Water distribution system is to provide essential fire protection to homes and businesses.
