Are you a member of a professional association, senior group, non-profit, community group, organization, or a high school or college educator looking for a fun and unique way to learn about water? Shelley Shockley, Marketing Manager at Cleveland Public Power, taught our Cleveland STEP students how STEM correlates with the City’s ability to provide electricity to approximately 70,000 customers. This month’s virtual presentation also included the advantages and disadvantages of solar-powered energy, as well as the history behind Ohio’s largest municipal electrical power provider.
Models help us scientifically predict what is going to happen next, based on years of data recording what happened in the past. We also like a nice moderately thick coating of ice on Lake Erie each winter as it calms the lake, eliminates turbidity, and allows diatoms, which are the base of the sport-fish food web, to thrive.
Kristen Hall, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, led our Cleveland STEP students into a virtual presentation regarding what it takes to build a Sustainable Cleveland. Director Hall introduced our Cleveland STEP students to various components under the canopy of the 2018 Cleveland Climate Action Plan and encouraged them to apply for the Youth Sustainability Leadership program.
