should I call about getting a permit to tap into the water
system?
Call
the Permits and Sales Unit at (216) 664-2444 Ext# 5203. This
unit serves owners, developers and commercial builders who
wish to connection with the water system and provides the
necessary information on how to apply for a permit.
When
is a permit required?
A
permit is required under the following conditions:
1.
Before new construction begins
2. When planning repairs to existing water lines
3. When converting from well water to the Cleveland Water
system
4. Before extending water lines to new structures
5. When water from a hydrant is needed
Where
can I get a permit?
Permits
are issued at the Public Utilities Building, 1201 Lakeside
Avenue, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
What
information will I need to obtain a permit?
Basically,
you will need:
1.
Name and mailing address of the property owner
2. Street address of the property where the work will be done
3. Name of city where property is located
For
commercial, large residential and irrigation connections,
you must provide four (4) sets of plot plans showing:
1.
Location of water connection
2. Vault location (if necessary)
3. Size of connection
4. Type of material
5. Location of property from the nearest crossing street
6. Location of meter if inside of building
7. Materials List
In
addition, for commercial connections you must provide:
1.
The original Letter
of Intent signed by the property owner and notarized
2. Water Customer Data Survey Sheets – Domestic
Connection Form and/or Fire
Connection Form obtained from the Permits And Sales Unit,
that is completely filled out, including the GPM and PSI Requirements
For
residential properties, a plot plan or topographical survey
is required. For commercial connections or well water conversions,
you will need the original Letter
of Intent signed by the property owner and notarized along
with a Well
Water Survey Form. Finally, if a vault will be location
on private property, you must provide a Meter
Vault Easement. All form can be obtained from the Permits
and Sales Unit.
How
can I schedule an inspection when a new water line is run
for new services or repairs?
The
Permits & Sales Unit at 664-2444 Ext# 5203 sends out inspectors
to check the installation and type of materials used after
repairs or new installations have been made to verify that
work has been done to code.
