Contractors working on behalf of Cleveland Water hit a 6-inch high-pressure gas main this morning on South Green Road in South Euclid. The contractors were in the process of making repairs to a 12-inch water main break when they inadvertently hit the unmarked gas main.
As a result, the South Euclid Fire Department evacuated homes and businesses as well as a school on South Green Road between Mayfield and Ardendale Roads as a safety precaution. There are no reports of any injuries.
Dominion East Ohio is on site and has the gas main turned off. Cleveland Water contractors are now working to get the water turned off so that repairs can be made to the gas main.
