The 77th annual Ohio Section American Water Works Association conference was held in our great city last week. Over 800 representatives from different parts of Ohio were in town to take part in this conference; and the timing could not have been any better. With the threat of algae blooms lurking closer to Cleveland, this issue was a major topic of discussion. The conference provided a great opportunity for some of the best and brightest water industry experts to gather and share ideas on the water treatment and the future of the water treatment process.
During the week, attendees had a full schedule of activities that kept them busy. Everything from daily workshops and technical session on Distribution, Sourcewater, Water Treatment, Customer Service, and Utility Management; to meet and greets, water treatment plant and sewer treatment plant tours, and luncheons and award dinners. There was even a full day’s worth of activities for attendees’ spouses and guests which included visiting some of the city’s biggest tourist attractions such as tours of the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame and Playhouse Square.
One of the most anticipated events of the conference was the annual Men and Women Tapping, the Top Ops, Best of the Best Water Tasting, and Meter Madness competitions. Teams consisted of men and women from city water utilities all over Ohio and competed in these events with the winners from each competition, who will go on to represent the Ohio Section at the 2016 AWWA conference in Chicago, Illinois. Cleveland Water had representatives in each contest and had a strong showing by challenging the other teams to perform at the highest level. Congratulations to all of the competitors for their hard work and success at completing each challenge. We also want to thank everyone for their hard work throughout the week which made this conference such a great success!
