Since the start of 2019, the temperature of the lake water coming into Cleveland Water’s Garrett Morgan Treatment Plant has stayed below 39.2°F (4°C). This is the magic number that signals the lake’s surface can now start to freeze.

The low temperatures and cold winds of winter can make your water pipes susceptible to freezing, especially ones located in unheated or exterior areas of your home. And if a frozen pipes bursts, it can cause flooding and serious damage.

Beginning today, Cleveland Water crews will be repairing a break on a 16-inch concrete water main on Center Road/Route 303 near Boyer Drive in Brunswick. While repairs are made over the next two weeks, one lane of westbound traffic on Center Road will be closed.

December’s Cleveland STEP class visited the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Students got to go behind-the-scenes to see the museum’s anthropological and zoological collections and talk with curators. They also went on a guided tour through the museum to view the exhibits.

43.6 degrees Fahrenheit is the official temperature for Lake Erie offshore of Cleveland as of today, November 28. While that's still a good bit above freezing, as winter progresses and the lake temperature continues to drop we're on the lookout for ice formation.
