How We Prepare for Winter Weather

Harsh winter weather is never convenient. But at Cleveland Water, we do everything we can to minimize the impact it may have on the treatment and delivery of your water.

How to Winterize Your Plumbing

Winter weather will be here before you know it. And once temperatures drop, your water pipes and meter can be susceptible to freezing. Frozen pipes cause expensive, frustrating, and unnecessary damage.

What You Can Do About Lead: Flush, Clean, Consume Cold

Cleveland Water takes several steps to reduce lead in our system and keep your water safe, including treatment optimizationregular monitoring, and engineering controls. These efforts have been successful at reducing the potential for exposure to lead from water.

There are also actions that our customers can take to reduce the risk of exposure if lead is found in service lines, plumbing, or fixtures. These will ensure the highest quality drinking water comes out of your tap.

What You Can Do About Lead: Check, Test, Date

Like many older water systems, some homes and businesses in the Cleveland Water System may have lead service lines or connections. To know the potential for lead in your home’s plumbing system, follow these steps.

What We Do About Lead: Engineering

Replace

Cleveland Water is lead-free when it leaves our treatment plants and our water mains are not made from lead. However, some older service lines and connections do contain lead. We proactively replace all lead city-owned service lines and connections during water main repair and replacement projects.

What We Do About Lead: Monitoring

Cleveland Water has been regularly monitoring lead levels at customer’s taps since 1992 in compliance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and Ohio's Lead and Copper Rules. These rules require public water systems to monitor drinking water in homes that are known to have lead and copper in their plumbing systems. Monitoring ensures that our corrosion control techniques are successful at keeping lead from leaching into drinking water.

What We Do About Lead: Water Treatment

At Cleveland Water, we take the risks associated with lead in drinking water seriously. That is why we have optimized our water treatment process to help protect you and your family from the risks associated with lead pipes.
