Overview

Several factors contribute to Cleveland's overall water quality. First, the United States and Canada signed the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement in 1972 which limits the levels of pollutants entering the lake. Second, the Division of Water is investing in a plant enhancement program (PEP) that focuses on upgrading or replacing equipment and technology. These improvements enhance each waterworks plant's ability to clean, treat and test the water before it's ready for consumption. Third, our dedicated team is well trained to meet and/or improve upon Ohio EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) standards. Fourth, the EPA establishes and enforces water quality standards and periodically makes on-site visits (both scheduled and unannounced) to review procedures and results.

This report informs readers and consumers about Cleveland's water quality results tested over the past year.
