On your Cleveland Water bill,
there is a line item titled
LOCAL. This line has always been
on your Sewer Bill. In the
Local Area of Current Charges,
we have an area specifically for
other municipal service fees
(i.e. administrative fees). This
allows for Cleveland Water to be
the billing agent for other
services in our distribution
network on behalf of the City or
member municipalities.
The local charge does not depict
any new fees established by the
Division of Water. Prior to
the changing of the billing
format, if the premise was
serviced by the Northeast Ohio
Regional Sewer District, then a
SAMPLE Cleveland bill would
appear as such:
Sewer Charge:
$52.84
Local Charge:
$22.54
All other municipalities
serviced by the Northeast Ohio
Regional Sewer District would
generally have the same format,
with their fees listed below the
sewer charge. Certain
communities such as
Brunswick and Westlake are billed for water only; hence
local and sewer charges are
alleviated.
The new billing structure
consists of more detail, with
the local charges categorized
under the third sub-section
titled Local.
For residents of
Cleveland,
the local charge is listed with
Water Pollution Control (WPC).
The Division of Water Pollution
Control (WPC) is responsible for
managing the sanitary sewage and
stormwater drainage collection
systems in Cleveland.
The system is comprised of 1,200
miles of sewer lines with
attendant catch basins and
includes the maintenance of 18
pump stations. The sewer
collection system transfers
sanitary sewage and stormwater
drainage from its point of
origin to treatment facilities
for processing and disposal.
In the event of street flooding,
sewer blockage or water
accumulation in your basement,
notify WPC's Customer Service
Unit at (216) 664-2513.
