To meet the requirements of Ohio
EPA’s lead and copper
regulations, Cleveland Water is
required to add orthophosphate
to our water for corrosion
control. We are required to
maintain a minimum level of 0.8
mg/L, allowing deviations on
only 9 days during a six month
period. Unfortunately, during
the July to December 2009
monitoring period, there were 11
days when we failed to maintain
the required dosage of
orthophosphate at the Crown
Water Treatment Plant.
Since 1997, we have consistently
added orthophosphate during our
treatment process for corrosion
control. The recent occurrence
is the first time we neglected
to maintain the required level,
according to Ohio EPA standards.
Tests performed since the time
of deviation from normal
corrosion control show that the
reduced dosage has had no impact
on the amount of lead and copper
in your water. We will continue
to perform hundreds of water
quality tests every day to
control our treatment process
and ensure our customers
continue to receive the highest
quality water.
If you have any questions,
please contact Cleveland Water
on our special hotline for Crown
customers at 216-443-2457 for
