New water rates will become effective for Cleveland Division of Water customers as of January 1, 2007. This is the first increase under a four-year rate schedule that was passed by Cleveland City Council this past spring. The new water rates are required to meet projected increases in operation and maintenance costs, meet debt service requirements and to finance the Division’s ongoing capital improvement program.
The table below indicates the new water rates per 1,000 cubic feet (MCF). One MCF is equal to approximately 7,500 gallons of water. A customer’s bill is determined by the service district, which varies by distance from and elevation above Lake Erie. The Division will also be assessing a quarterly customer service charge to all accounts to recover the costs of meter reading, billing, remittance and other customer service activities.
Under the previous rate schedule, the Division attempted to recover these expenses by imposing a consumption minimum of 1 MCF (1,000 cubic feet). The new rate schedule with a quarterly customer service charge and the billing of the account’s actual consumption, with no minimum volume, is fair to all customers.
